FDR 1933 FRANKLIN ROOSEVELT MS64 NGC Bronze 1st Inauguration Official Medal
Rare, Official bronze medal celebrating the First Inauguration of Franklin Delano Roosevelt. 76mm (3″) diameter, total 10mm high. Total mintage by the Philadelphia Mint in bronze was just 1,500, though 581 were said to have been unsold and destroyed. Artist: Paul Howard Manship.
High grade, with some spotting on obverse. No other issues to note; no corrosion, nicks or scratches. Please see photos for details. Backside is especially attractive, showing excellent luster.
Obverse: Left-facing high relief profile of the head of FDR with the artist’s name below: “P. MANSHIP ©. The profile is encircled by a two-line inscription: “FRANKLIN DELANO ROOSEVELT 31ST PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES / 1933 1937 JOHN NANCE GARNER VICE-PRESIDENT.”
Reverse: An image of the ship USS CONSTITUTION, and an angel below it, encircled by the inscription: “THOU TOO SAIL ON O SHIP OF STATE SAIL ON O UNION STRONG AND GREAT.”
