Issued in 1908 to celebrate Emperor Franz Joseph I’s six decades on the throne, this coin captures a pivotal moment in Austro-Hungarian history.
Obverse: Showcases a right-facing portrait of Emperor Franz Joseph I, encircled by the inscription: “FRANC·IOS·I·D·G·IMP·AVSTR·REX BOH·GAL·ILL·ETC·ET AP·REX HUNG·,” translating to “Franz Joseph I, by the Grace of God, Emperor of Austria, King of Bohemia, Galicia, Illyria, etc., and Apostolic King of Hungary.”
Reverse: Features the allegorical figure of Fame reclining, symbolizing the empire’s glory. The inscriptions include the dates “1848” and “1908,” the denomination “100 COR·,” and the Latin phrase “DVODECIM LVSTRIS GLORIOSE PERACTIS,” meaning “Twelve lustra (60 years) gloriously accomplished.”
